Great Bay Stewards: 2017 – 2018 Annual Accomplishments

  • Raised $10,000 toward new nesting habitats for the Blanding’s turtle, as well as other stewardship projects.
  • Installed live video feed of the osprey nest at the Discovery Center.
  • Improved handicap accessibility to the shoreline at the Discovery Center.
  • Supported research on salt marshes and horseshoe crab monitoring.
  • Advocated for the Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve when federal funding was threatened.
  • Provided assistance to the Reserve’s Teacher on the Estuary (TOTE) program.
  • Provided bus transportation for socioeconomically challenged students to attend Discovery Center field trips.
  • Secured grant funding for redesign of the GBNERR website.
  • Supported the production Great Bay Matters magazine.
  • Participated in the ongoing Every Drop campaign, a component of Great Bay 2020 aimed at creating a culture of stewardship around clean water.
  • Held the 19th annual Great Bay 5K Road Race, raising $15,000, with hundreds of runners and a tremendous group of volunteers.
  • Raised $11,000 at the 14th annual Art of Great Bay Show and hosted a ‘senior tea’ for area retirement communities.
  • Partnered with GBNERR on grants to study living shorelines, vegetated buffers, collecting environmental data using DNA, and developing wildlife sensitive trails.
  • Welcomed two new board members, Dennis Malloy and Fred Weismann
  • Welcomed a new executive director and new administrative coordinator.
